Dr. Derya Yorgancıoğlu obtained her B.Arch. from Yıldız Technical University, Department of Architecture in 2000, M.Arch. in Architecture from Middle East Technical University in 2004, and Ph.D. in Architecture from Middle East Technical University in 2010. Dr. Yorgancıoğlu worked as project assistant at the Unit for Strategy Development in Education and Research, of the Research and Implementation Centre for Built Environment and Design (RICBED) of METU Faculty of Architecture between 2006-2010. After completing her Ph.D., Dr. Yorgancıoğlu joined İstanbul Altınbaş University, Department of Architecture in 2011 where she coordinated the establishment of the Department as Chairperson and worked until 2017. Dr. Yorgancıoğlu conducted research studies at Queen’s University of Belfast, Center for Educational Development (CED) and Indiana University Bloomington, Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning (CITL), USA, as a visiting researcher in 2017 and 2018, successively. Her areas of specialty are in the fields of theory and research in architecture, architectural education, design studio pedagogy, the relationship between learning space and pedagogy, phenomenological approaches in architecture, and the scholarship of teaching and learning in higher education (SoTL). Dr. Yorgancıoğlu, who joined the Architecture Department of the Faculty of Architecture and Design in September 2017, was appointed as the Vice Dean of the Faculty of Architecture and Design in February 2025.
