Dr. Erdem Demirtaş holds a PhD in Political Science and International Relations from Boğaziçi University. Between 2019 and 2020, he was a Fulbright Scholar at UC Berkeley, where he conducted research under the supervision of Prof. Malcolm Feeley. Dr. Demirtaş's dissertation, which examined the factors affecting constitutional jurisdiction in times of political crisis, was awarded the Best Dissertation Honorable Mention Award by the Law and Society Association in 2023. As part of his postdoctoral studies, Dr. Demirtaş is working on using natural language processing methods to reveal the implicit effects of political factors on court decisions. For this purpose, he prepared the project 'TRACE: Tracing Informal Constitutional Change with Word Embeddings,' which was awarded the Seal of Excellence by the European Commission in 2023. Dr. Demirtaş also has a book titled "State and Power in the Middle East," published by Metis Press in 2014.
