Dr. Zehra Tonbul’s research centers on modern and contemporary architectural history and theory, framed by intellectual history and the philosophy of architecture. She is a member of the European Architectural History Network and the Society for the History of Humanities. She teaches studio, history, and theory courses, including a graduate course on Decolonialism in Architecture. She completed her doctoral thesis at Boğaziçi University in Istanbul, co-advised by the Department of Art History at the University of Vienna, with a dissertation titled The Art Historiographical Odyssey of Ernst Diez. Dr. Tonbul conducted postdoctoral research as a Preußischer Kulturbesitz scholar at the Berlin Museums on the topic of German art and architectural historiography. She is a graduate of Robert College of Istanbul, holds a degree in Architecture as top scholar from Istanbul Technical University, and an MPhil degree in History and Philosophy of Architecture from the University of Cambridge.
